An Unexpected Trip
The choice between dolls and the dendrological garden on August 15 has been made: the village named after Komissarov wins! I still really want to head to the north of Omsk Region, but the budget for that trip unexpectedly found a use a week earlier — for a journey on August 8 to a ceramics festival… in Novosibirsk!
Here’s the logic:
- the cost of fuel (700 km) and accommodation is roughly equal to the price of comfortable overnight train tickets to the capital of the Siberian Federal District and back;
- on August 8 there are no other events within reach that compete for my interest, and a new report from Novosibirsk would expand the project’s geography nicely;
- on August 15 I will go to the dendrological garden, while next year the doll festival gets top priority at this time of the season.
That’s the event tourism as it is: events keep overlapping, and you often have to sacrifice something. You just have to accept it as a given and widen your planning horizon — that way you can be sure the 2027 summer festival season will be just as bright and full. Now if only I could keep up turning all the shoots into stories :)
