8 Weeks of Development Behind Us

On Saturday comes the last weekly project demo of this season’s Student IT Lab. Eight teams will show what they’ve achieved over eight weeks, and only four will make it to the final to compete for a nice cash prize. Competitiveness is a great motivator — it has kept us on our toes all summer :)

And these days I’m doing everything I can for our project’s success: I’m critically testing the site on both laptop and smartphone, uploading the latest prepared picture stories, and polishing the interface translations. I’m confident the team deserves the highest marks for the work we’ve done, and I really don’t want to let them down on my end.

In fact, we have delivered the June minimum programme and introduced a couple of technical solutions that were not even on the radar at the start. In my boldest dreams I was reaching for more advanced features — automatic voiceover for the stories, for instance — but I believe thoughtful navigation and the convenience of the admin panel’s custom modules matter more than wow effects (in the long run, at least).

Please keep your fingers crossed for us — and we, in turn, will once again show a clear concept, a great design, elegant algorithms and amazing photos of hospitable Siberia and its people!
